A Few Tips on Fixing Chipped Granite Countertops

Trying to repair granite countertop by yourself using an epoxy can save you a lot of money. Granite countertops are highly durable, but are damaged or chipped over time. The cost of hiring the help of a professional to make repairs can cost too much and buying a new one may not exactly fit within your budget at the current time.
Mix warm water and mild dish soap as a cleansing solution and clean the damaged are using a sponge. Wipe the surface with a clean dry towel after wiping the wet sponge onto it and let dry one hour.
After the cleansed area is completely dry, protect the surrounding areas of the chipped granite, using masking tape to only leave the portion in need of repair exposed. Being sure to wear latex gloves, start mixing the granite epoxy resin and the hardener. Apply the mixture to the chipped area and smooth the epoxy with a tongue depressor. Clean off any excess with the razor blade.
Give time for the epoxy to dry completely, which will vary depending on the size of the repair, climate conditions and the type of granite epoxy resin used. Only after it is completely dry, apply sealer to the repaired area for restored luster and added protection. Recommended application is usually 24 hours after the epoxy has been applied.
It is important to your safety and those in the house to not use the oven or any other appliance that produce heat while in the process of repairing the chipped countertop. Because you are working with flammable substances, repair granite countertop chips away from heat-producing appliances whenever possible.
